BJ Penn
is a legendary BJJ artist and MMA champion. Does he have what it
takes to be a winner in the cut-throat, free-for-all that is
American politics? Which basically makes the UFC look like
Disneyland in comparison?

On
October 5th 2021, former lightweight and welterweight UFC
champion BJ Penn announced that he is running for Governor of
Hawaii in the upcoming October 2022 elections.
In a
post on Instagram dated October 18 2021, he states
regarding his candidature:
"People
have been telling me good luck on my new career, I just want
to make it clear to everyone that this is not my new career. I
am not going to take any money for this and I will do this for
one 4 year term, I am not here to be a career criminal, I mean
a career politician. I will step in to "huli" [turn
over] the system and do what needs to be done."
BJ
then promises to return back to his people and not continue a
career as politician.
Preemptively,
Bj Penn predicts that his political opponents will use his
past street brawls and his legal case with his ex-wife to
attempt to discredit his political aspirations and that they
will accuse him of lack of political experience.
Running
on the Republican platform, BJ enjoys wide popularity in
Hawaii and has been a vocal advocate against the Covid-19 mask
mandate in Hawaii. Having known BJ for over 23 years I vouch
that no one who knows him can doubt his heart and love for the
Hawaiian people, not to mention his love for a good fight for
what he believes in.
The
greater issue here is, will the Hawaiian people trust BJ and
his lack of political experience to become their new
Governor? BJ, in the same Instagram post, reminds us that even
though he may not have any experience as a politician, that he
is a successful businessman and plans on siding with the
little guy who has suffered the most from the restrictions
deriving from the Covid-19 Pandemic.
As a
fan and friend of BJ, I truly wish him the best in his new
political venture and that he may be successful in his new
journey battling for that which he loves. But above all, we
hope that the Hawaiian nation has a strong leader willing to
put up a fight for what is right, with wisdom, courage and
integrity. The three qualities politicians are most
lacking in.
